May 5 Recap
The day was awesome in Huntington Green. It really was a beautiful thing to see the body of Christ working in unity to combat poverty and prejudice. One of the main purposes of the event was to build bridges between races, between the church and the community and also between churches. Everyone agreed that it was a resounding success. We are doing something again in the Waymer area of Huntersville on August 11. Come join us!!

We did get some rain and had to do some shuffling. Thankfully we had a few canopies and some hard workers that weren’t afraid to get wet. Once the rains cleared about 11am or so it only sprinkled. Happy to say that nothing was cancelled!!
There were 110 volunteers signed in from fifteen area churches. Men, women, youth, couples and families all participated. AFM coordinated the event and the other main participatory churches were Elevate Church, Family Christian Center, Lake Forest Community Church, Lake Haven Community Church, and Life Fellowship Church along with 14 missionaries from m:Power Bible College at Christian Growth Center in the UK. There were also organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Solomon House, Lydia’s Loft and Presbyterian Hospital that helped.
Huntington Green community, Huntersville, NC
This great group of churches and organizations provided everything at no charge to the residents- taco feed, health care services, clothing, home repairs, dumpster and hauling services, raffles, beauty services, kid’s crafts, family portraits and more. We had a clown from one church, a professional photographer taking family portraits, another church did PA and music, another did food, and still another did children’s crafts and games, other churches hit the streets and helped some elderly homeowners with projects.
We attempted to pick up every piece of litter and trash on every street. There were a dozen weed wackers and mowers going full bore to make things beautiful. Volunteers and residents stuffed 4- 30 cubic yard construction dumpsters full of trash, appliances, weeds, and debris. Many residents were in tears as they were served by the acts of kindness.
Close to 275 tacos, rice and beans plates were served. Some of the Latino women in the trailer park helped our women with cooking the rice and beans. It seemed the most popular activities were the free haircuts and manicures that were non-stop from 11:00 am to 2:45pm. We also gave away three bikes, 20 bike helmets, sports balls, mp3 players and super soakers. The Habitat Restore donated a refrigerator that was given away.
Keeping with the theme of the day, Pastor Jeffrey gave a message inviting people to get of the junk in their lives and hearts by committing to following Christ and a few people took him up on the offer.
