News from cathy welch april 11, 2008

Aloha (for “hi” and goodbye) everyone:

I’m here in Hawaii.  Things are going well  :-)  Thanks for your continued prayers.  It’s been a crazy week here, but definitely in a good way!  God is doing amazing things in our hearts right from the start!

I flew from Charlotte to Arizona and then Arizona to Kona on Thursday April 3rd.  The airport in Kona is all outdoors; very beautiful.  We just registered, and got settled in.  Friday, April 4, we had an outdoor orientation, being welcomed to the island.  We had a couple meetings with our team.  I’m in the Broadcast/Cinema Team

I appreciate so much for all you folks have done to pray for and support me, to help me get to YWAM’s Discipleship Training School for this 5 months, April through August.  God is awesome, and has brought in, by far, most of my needed funds; I’m amazed at how much came in! Special thanks to Ardent Faith in Huntersville, NC for their kindness in handling most of the donations that came in.

It’s a busy schedule here, with classes and training pretty much all day, and sometimes night classes. Subjects have to do, just now, with the history and vision of the mission (Youth With A Mission), missions in general, hearing God’s voice, Bible, prayer and worship, etc. Interaction with my “team” and with others has also been such a blessing. God’s really blessed me with some awesome roommates! I have 6 roommates in our dorm room.

Just learned this: The “outreach team” I’ll be on for the “outreach phase” has been meeting, of course, and it now looks as if our team’s outreach will take place in Indonesia, Brazil, or both. I am really looking forward to that!

Saturday, April 5, the expected van not showing up, we made the hike to Wal-Mart to pick up essentials (took about an hour to walk there).  So you can see I’m keeping up the exercise  :-) That Sunday, church in morning (vans picked us up for different churches), I went to Calvary Community Church. Had service at night here at YWAM (welcoming the nations); was one of the most incredible services ever.

April 7 was the first day of classes. There were some incredible testimonies shared of how people got here. They also had the leaders of our team wash our feet...had never had that done before; was quite a humbling and amazing experience.

There’s actually someone in the Performing Arts group who is not a believer.  He admitted that to the leaders before he came, but he still wanted to be here.  I don’t remember his name (it’s Korean), but please be in prayer for him.

I’ll include some Korean words in a later update  :-)  I actually taught my first English word to a group of Koreans....the word “floss”....not really sure how that word came up, but they asked me for the English word for it  :-)

Thanks again for all your prayers, encouragement and support. God’s making breakthroughs; more to come!  Praise the Lord!

He’s the God of LOVE and He is SO GOOD!

Mahalo,  (thank you)
