recession proof yourself

The recession is here (or coming depending on who you talk to) and we have to deal with it.  Of course we do - everyone does - it's out of our control.  Fear begins to pervade corporate America.  Investors pull back.  But all of this only adds fuel to the fire.

Do we have a choice in whether or not we have to participate in the recession?  Let me propose this - as a people that live by the Word of God, we do not. There is no recession in the Kingdom of God.  Looking for a job or just starting a new career?  Don't get caught up in it.  Be careful of the words you chose.  God was aware there was a recession when He led you to get a new job.  Starting off in sales is a scaring thing in the atmosphere of economic caution. True, but my experience in sales was that there were some that actually increased their commissions in tough times!!

Christ died for us to give us the freedom that does not bind us to fear.  Psalm 112 gives such clear direction to the children of God in these matters.

1 Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.

2 His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.

4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man.

5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely,  who conducts his affairs with justice.

6 Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever.

7 He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.

9 He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever;
his horn will be lifted high in honor.

Meditate on these verses.

Can you embrace a fearless generosity?
