Cathy welch - YWAM - 2008
Greetings in Christ:
I am Cathy Welch, an MK (Missionary Kid) born in Bangladesh, now living in the Charlotte, NC area.
I serve regularly in my church, Ardent Faith Christian Fellowship (www.ardentfaith.org). I also enjoy volunteering with CharlotteONE, “a unified worship gathering of young adults.” Recently, a special opportunity has arisen.
Over the past year, the Lord had put several people in my path who have recommended YWAM (Youth With A Mission) and their DTS (Discipleship Training School) missions program. On faith I applied and was accepted into the program. These things and more have confirmed in my heart that I am to go. “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news”! --Romans 10:15. Now begins a major faith test for me.
The first 13 weeks is at the YWAM base in Kona, HI. I will receive some of the best training available for missionary work. And the last 8 weeks will be full-time missions outreach. In fact even while training, we’ll be involved in local outreach.
The total cost for my 5 month missions trip, which is $10,000, includes: travel costs to training center (early April), room, board, tuition, insurance, travel to field assignments, and travel back home (late August)…See last page for details.
Women in India...
I am currently working and saving, and plan on paying 25-30 % of this cost, but I am praying and trusting God for the remainder to come in by April. The two biggest needs are -- prayer and finances, in that order! YWAM suggests that for the 5 month DTS time, new YWAMers have their financial support flow through their home church. Mine, Ardent Faith Christian Fellowship, has graciously offered to channel my funding. If the Lord lays it on your heart to help financially, you could do so by (1)making a check out to “Ardent Faith Christian Fellowship,” and (2)mailing it to my address below, with a note: “for Cathy Welch missions trip” in the memo field of the check. Pastor has suggested that I receive the donations, made out to the church, and then I can get them to the church; that way I can keep up with them, send thank you notes, etc., but you can consider the donations tax deductible. THANKS!
...Children in Africa...
Most of all, I need your prayers, for fruitful and effective missionary training and service. I want to thank each of you for influencing my life in so many ways, especially through your prayers. And THANKS to Jesus Christ, who brings life to spiritually dark and dead places!
In His love,
Cathy

...And the people of Mongolia..., ALL NEED JESUS!
An adventure with God that will change your life forever
This outstanding Discipleship Training School (DTS) is for youth-oriented, missions-minded Christians of all ages and cultures who want their lives to count for eternity. Every year, hundreds of people do a DTS in Kona, and thousands more take the school at various locations worldwide. Most say it has radically changed their lives and helped them get to know God in a deep and personal way. The 21-week DTS program in Kona begins with a 12-week lecture/teaching phase followed by a 8-week field assignment in another nation.
The Kona DTS is designed to encourage students in knowing God personally, in character development, in building healthy relationships and in seeing their role in Christ's call to "Go into all the world and disciple all nations." The DTS family represents people of various ages, cultures, church denominations and life experiences. We seek to learn from one another to become all that God wants us to be.
The DTS lecture phase
The school includes distinct sessions taught by world-renowned speakers as well as emerging YWAM leaders. It includes topics such as:
- The character and ways of God
- How to hear the voice of God
- The power of forgiveness and repentance
- YWAM Foundational Values
- Relationships
- Personal character development
- Spiritual warfare
- Evangelism and missions
- Cross-cultural ministry
The outreach phase
Outreach doesn't just happen during the overseas field assignment. It begins the moment you step onto the Kona campus. We give lots of ways for students to put their faith into action around our island, long before we board planes for "outreach." The contribution each student brings will help shape the school itself.
- DTS teams regularly participate in community service and evangelism outreaches in West Hawaii.
- DTS teams from Kona frequently go to nations throughout the Pacific and Asia...and to Africa, the Middle East, South America--wherever God says "Go."
- Ministries often include evangelism, teaching English, dramas, community service, bands, sports outreach, acts of mercy/compassion and more.
